Leslie thnwblk & Soho.

1. SPTMBR

blk August 31, 2020

This is our inaugural story!
Somehow we have continually evolved over the years but haven’t put out a formal edit.

So here we go.

often, I don’t know how to sum up thnwblk.  It’s a multi faceted endeavor, with the end goal of attempting to serve, love & leave the world (at least our little corner of it) a little better than we found it.
Originally, I wanted to express my love for the dope things I encountered in my various circles.

The terminology ‘… is the new black’ is all about what the new it thing is, so the idea has always been to see the beauty in our subjects and try to express our love for them to our audience.

thnwblk. has become just that... and so much more.

It is now a place for exploration of this human experience on many levels.

Photography, art, literature, lifestyle, spirituality and love.

New York City is always a great idea.

New York City is always a great idea.

Close friends and collaborators have jokingly said it is more like a cult… and

I am becoming more and more ok with that.

But a good cult.

It’s a love cult!

One of our tenets is to put our opinion into our work.  So this is it. We won’t criticize anyone.

If we want to see something, we make it.

“Critics are to art, what pigeons are to statues.”

This became quite an important message I would give myself whenever I thought of being critical… of anything.

So, we start with our very own Leslie Sidora.  When we began, it seemed that the industry wasn’t ready for someone that looked like her, despite the hard work and amazing strides made by those that came before her.

Agencies weren’t really interested in representing her and  it seemed as though a career in modeling wouldn’t happen.

Fortunately for us, we don’t really follow what everyone else is thinking.

We decided to pave out a new lane.

I mean, with master designers, pattern makers, tailors, etc. how could there NOT be a way to make beautiful wearable art for any and everyone?

So we started making images. Lifestyle editorials, and we grew.

And wouldn’t you know it, people liked it. People saw themselves in the images we made.

We have so much to talk about, but just wanted to get this out of our system.

Welcome to this cult…

Part 2 (interviewing Leslie Sidora) coming Wednesday

Meanwhile. Get into Leslie in Jacquemus dress & Prada kicks.
