PAUSE

“Michelangelo's David is a breathtaking masterpiece that leaves you momentarily speechless. Standing tall in all his glory… David showcases the perfect blend of strength and beauty.

But also…

AYYYOOO.”

A meditation on the placement of David in the contemporary NYC space.
The technique I used to reimagine David is oil stick & shading with the hand.
There have been many instances of David being “censored” including when Queen Victoria visited him and was reportedly shocked.  A fig leaf was actually commissioned to keep David from exhibiting his freeness. It remained until 1912 but was removed as times had changed.

In the spirit of our *conservative* culture, that will NOT tolerate overt sexuality,

PAUSE.

MICKEYAVELI

This effigy challenges our perceptions of idolization and cultural reverence in a world where icons hold immense sway over our identities and beliefs.

Historically, societies have condemned the worship of pagan gods, viewing such practices as misguided or even sacrilegious. Yet, Mickeyaveli embodies the complex ways we now venerate cultural icons, blurring the lines between reverence and entertainment. Tupac represents the voice of the marginalized, a revolutionary spirit whose legacy continues to inspire. In contrast, Mickey Mouse stands as a symbol of innocence and joy, a beloved character who has transcended generations.  The question remains whether either is/was truly what they are made to be.

This art piece serves as a commentary on our contemporary landscape, where we might find ourselves worshipping figures that reflect our aspirations, struggles, and nostalgia. It invites us to question how we define divinity in a modern context—are these icons our new gods? In a time when cultural icons can ignite movements and shape identities, this effigy becomes a striking reminder of the duality of our devotion: a blend of admiration, critique, and the ongoing evolution of what it means to hold something sacred.

CENTERED

Finding clarity in the chaos—this piece reminds us that sometimes, it takes a million small efforts and acts to find our peace, our center.  This piece is based on the moment of the apex of a breath.  It is impossible to overstate the importance of breathing in finding our center.

1/120s KRSNA

Amidst the sacred flames of the samskara fire ceremony of Acyuta Gopi (a priestess, spiritualist, scholar, author and kirtaniya) the divine form of Krishna emerges.

ART OF BEE-ING

THE FOCUS ON HAPPINESS SEEMS TO KEEP US DISSATISFIED IN THIS MATERIAL WORLD. THE BEE IS FOCUSED ON ITS PURPOSE, DEDICATED AND DETERMINED WITH LITTLE REGARD TO THE GLOBAL AND INTERSPECIFIC BENEFITS OF ITS WORK. ULTIMATELY, WE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE MANY VARIABLES THAT HAVE TO ALIGN FOR OUR WORK TO BE WHAT WE DEEM SUCCESSFUL, SO A MEDITATION ON SIMPLY OFFERING UP OUR WORK TO ‘SERVING OUR PURPOSE FOR THE GREATER GOOD’ IS MOST WISE. AS A BYPRODUCT OF BEING… BEE-ING PURPOSEFUL, WE BECOME HAPPY.

3RD EYE

WE HAVE BEEN DEBATING THE WHATS, WHERES, WHENS WHYS AND HOWS OF CONSCIOUSNESS FOR AS LONG AS WE HAVE BEEN CONSCIOUS, AND WHILE OUR CONCLUSIONS DYNAMICALLY VARY WE DO HAVE SOME COMMON IDEAS ABOUT IT. THE IDEA OF AN AWAKENING AND/OR HAVING INSIGHT HAVE BEEN CONSISTANT AMONG MANY. WE HAVE TIED THESE IDEAS TO THE CONCEPT OF A THIRD EYE. IN THIS MEDITATION, I FOCUSED ON ‘THE WINDOW TO OUR SOUL’ AND WHAT A JOURNEY THAT IS. THE VIEW IS ABSTRACT YET SOMEHOW LENDS ITSELF TO SO MANY INTERPRETATIONS DEPENDING ON OUR CURRENT STATE OF CONSCIOUSNESS. THIS PORTAL REMAINS MYSTERIOUS AND INTRIGUING WHILE SERVING AS A REMINDER THAT THERE ARE PHYSICAL WAYS TO ADDRESS THE SPIRITUAL.

METAMORPHOSIS

This piece serves as a meditation on the delicate beauty of transformation and evolution. Each meticulously placed dot creates a vivid representation of the butterfly's intricate wings, symbolizing the journey of self-discovery and growth within this lifetime.

The butterfly, often associated with rebirth, reflects the idea that we have the power to evolve, shedding old identities and embracing new ones. Just as the butterfly undergoes its metamorphosis, we too can experience profound changes, learning from our past and emerging stronger and more vibrant.

This meditation serves to remind us that evolution is not just a singular event but an ongoing process—one that allows us to reincarnate within ourselves, continually adapting and flourishing as we navigate life’s journey. This piece invites us to reflect on our transformations and the beauty of becoming.
